Kaul-Khandoli
It is about 9 kms distance from Jammu, that this historically important place
is situated. This is considered to be the commencement place of pilgrimage.
During the days, when the journey use to begin on foot from Jammu, this place
was considered to be the first and prime most important place of pilgrimage.
People proceeding for Darshan may ask the
driver of the bus to stop here for the Darshan of Goddess. It is told that
Vaishnavdevi used to play games with the local young girls at this
place. After playing the ball game, when the girls used to feel thirsty,
goddess used to give them a empty container. When this container is waved in a
dry place, the container used to be filled with water. The name of this place
thus become Kaul- Khandoli.
Katra
On the foot hills of Trikuta, at an altitude of 2400 feet, this place is
situated. This is a small town surround by beautiful hills and valleys with
lush green trees enchanting the visitors all the times. This is the last place
up to which people can use any type of vehicle. Beyond this point people can
not use any vehicles. It is about 14.5 kms from this place to the main temple
of the Goddess up the hill. All along this route is facilitated with the
drinking water facilities such as natural waterfalls from which one can drink
water and also the tap connections etc. All along the road is (well lighted)
electrified. But as a precautionary measure, it is advisable to carry
torchlight. In Katra all the facilities are available to the pilgrims. For
meeting the needs of the refreshment and food all facilities are available in
this place. Restaurants & hotels,
rest rooms, information centers etc. are available.
